The H Family: At Home on the Farm

Some photo sessions feel less like work and more like stepping into a story - and this was one of them.

A few years ago, I was visiting my home state of Colorado, and the H family booked me for a family portrait session. This was extra special because I had taken Jericho and Megan’s wedding pictures approximately 15 years ago, and some family portraits when their first baby was born.

I was so excited that the H family chose to have their session at their home, instead of somewhere else. From the moment that I stepped into their wide-open property, I knew that this session was going to be special. The kids ran around their front yard, comfortable with being home. There were fields as far as the eye could see, surrounded by the mountains in the distance.

This session felt like a deep breath. The kind you take when you slow down and remember what really matters. These kids grow up with dirt under their nails and animals in their arms, and there’s beauty in that simplicity.

The kids did a great job as we mixed posed portraits with candids. The animals weren’t just part of the scenery - they were part of the family, and I’m so glad that we got to include them in the portraits. :)

This season of life moves fast. The years -they fly. And someday, these kids will flip through their family album and remember how it felt - to be held, to be known, to be free and at home.

Family portraits aren’t just pictures. They’re legacy. They’re proof that this love existed here, in this place, at this time. That’s worth preserving.

To the H family - thank you for letting me step into your world for an afternoon. Your joy, your patience, and your obvious love for one another (and your animals!) made this session a gift.

And to anyone reading: whether your family lives on a farm, in a cul-de-sac, or in a high-rise apartment, your life is beautiful and worthy of being remembered. Let’s create something together.

P.S. - Here’s a little throwback from their wedding day - thank you, Megan and Jericho, for trusting me once again, so many years later!
